Marble is a rock resulting from metamorphism of sedentary carbonate rocks, most commonly limestone or dolomite rock. It is not the hardest of stones which makes it more porous and therefore more susceptible to stains.
Marble is a beautiful choice for bright elegant kitchens. It comes in two different finishes;
Honed – Created by sanding the surface so that it has a soft, matte finish. Honed marble will not scratch as much. The stone appears a little less bright and is more susceptible to staining, as the pores are open. Sealing is the solution.
Polished Finish – Polished to a shiny exterior, this finish won’t stain as easily, but it can scratch and etch. The bright shiny finish will wear down in time. Therefore periodic sealing and polishing may be necessary.
